Welcome to the
Chinese Kung Fu Academy Melbourne Branch
My name is Sifu Marc Webster and I teach Circular Praying Mantis Kung Fu (Circular Tong Long). Our style emanates from the Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu lineage. Please browse this site to find out more information regarding our style, system or about myself. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu is fast, skillful, vicious, direct and effective. Our style turns defence into attack by striking immediately, denying the opponent a chance to deliver more than one blow. The mantis philosophy is to keep hitting until your opponent is disabled or down. The theory is to get your opponent off balance and not let him regain it, while at the same time shifting in close to attack with many rapid, short, heavy strikes.
The mantis believes it is better to apologise rather than be apologised to.
Speed is essential in this system. Mantis practitioners don’t draw their hands back to strike as it’s too slow and discloses their intentions to the opponent. This system trains practitioners to be able to deliver maximum power output through correct external and internal body mechanics. The progressive practice of Ying (shape), Yi (mind), Hai (breath), Sun (focus), Gung (power) in our training allows for devastating power to be produced in our strikes from very short distances.
We train every Tuesday from 8:00pm - 9:30pm and Thursday at 7:30pm - 9pm, make sure you bring a drink, a towel and if it is your first session make sure your arrive around 15mins early as there is a bit of paper work you have to do. Respect is a very big part of our system, you will have to bow to your Sifu and Sigung and you will need to salute all other students with our Tong Long salute.
